In this weeks ‘Meet the rider’ we’re meeting a rider from our second beneficiary of Pedalling for Pubs, Only A Pavement Away.
As Relationship Manager at the charity, Izzy knows a thing or two about working with and also in pubs and was kindly nominated for the ride by founder of the charity Greg Mangham.
Hi Izzy, tell us a bit about yourself?
Hiya! I am Izzy McHattie and I work for Only a Pavement Away as the Relationship Manager. I have been working for OAPA since the end of January this year, having graduated from the University of Liverpool last year. I have had a super exciting past 12 months beginning with me working as an Assistant Manager for my Dad in his pub up in the Peak District, I then flew half way across the world to volunteer in Thailand for 6 weeks, teaching English in a Burmese and Thai school and on my return to England I moved to London to get on board with the Only a Pavement Away team.
What is your background in the industry
The vast majority of my close family members have all worked in the hospitality industry. My Dad used to be the Chief Executive of the ALMR has always worked within the hospitality sector; currently he runs two great pubs in the Peak District. My Step Dad was the CEO of Meantime and is currently a Non-Executive Director for Youngs PLC. My personal background is currently a rather small list, but I am hoping I’ll also be in the industry for many years to come.
How will you prepare for PFP2020?
I will most definitely be getting on a bike! I will probably mix it up a bit, get out on a bike as well as training in the gym incorporating some weight training and cardio. Being a 22-year-old living in London, I think it would be too optimistic to say I will completely give up the alcohol as part of my prep!
Tell us something unusual about yourself?
An unusual fact about me is that I used to train 3 times a week, competitively for Javelin – I even managed to win English Schools and the UK championships one year!
Why are you getting behind the bar?
I am getting behind the bar because it is for a great cause, helping and supporting those in need within the hospitality industry. In particular, PFP is supporting Only a Pavement Away – so of course, we need a representative! I also love a challenge, and since I have never done a bike ride like this before I am ready to chuck myself in head first and give it my best shot.
